Hello! My name is Nakia and welcome to my blog.

Let’s see…what would you like to know about me?? I’ll start by saying that I’m in love with my husband Allen and we have two amazing little girls – Mia and Riley! My family is my world and they inspire me to be creative and I thank God everyday for them and for blessing me with a creative soul.

I graduated from college with a BFA in Visual Communication and I currently work full time for a creative agency where I am an art buyer and print producer. I work with an amazing group of creative people and love that I am surrounded by a creative environment but I need my own outlet so I started A Handcrafted Affair to share what inspires me and I hope that I can inspire someone else to find their inner artist.

I love paper. I love making things out of paper. When I was a little girl I had wanted my very own checkbook so I created one out of notebook paper. Of course, I needed all of the necessary accessories to go with my new checkbook so I made a paper purse, complete with a paper wallet and while I was at it I went ahead and drew up some cash too. All adorned with pretty rainbows. I’m pretty sure the rainbows saved me from a life of doing hard time for counterfeit money…and the fact that I was only six. J

In college, my paper fascination brought me to a paper making class. This was definitely my favorite course throughout college! I even created a dress made from handmade paper. Nowadays, I’ve been playing with paper flowers and other fun paper décor for birthdays, baby showers, weddings ...oh, the possibilities are endless.

And I love to bake (ok, I really just love to eat delicious sweet treats). Baking is a science which suites the very detailed side of me but then there is the decorating and displaying of these wonderful confections and that appeals to my artistic side! I’d say it’s a winning combination and a craft right up my alley.

I’m a passionate person and I strive to continually learn and grow in just about every facet of being creative and I am excited to share my experiences.
